On May 15, 2010 the Minnesota Minority-Ethnic Political Caucus will hold a Town Hall Meeting at Sunnyside Restaurant, located at 1825 Glenwood Avenue North (corners of Glenwood and Morgan Avenues North), from 10 a.m. to 12-noon.

This meeting will be held at a Black business in North Minneapolis to stress the need of supporting small businesses in our respected communities. We would like all participants to purchase breakfast; specials will be available from Sunnyside Restaurant.

This meeting is being held to discuss a “rash” of current events that are causing the minority-ethnic communities of Minneapolis as will as Minnesota become wastelands of economic development, with faltering education systems for our youth and to take a real look at where dollars are going that seem to have no effect on economic development.

Topics to be covered in this meeting:

1. Minneapolis Public Schools and their discussion to build on Broadway Avenue – “Where are the goals and let’s take a peek at the Community Benefits Agreement.” (We will invite MPS officials and Sarita Turner from the WBBAC.)

2. Contract Compliance by the Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights. (We will request an audience with Compliance managers from the MDCR) to see what the numbers were on the Twin Stadium and why minority-ethnic contractors continue to starve for city contracts.

3. Empowerment Zone: What happened to the money? MMEPC will request a detailed list of the EZ dollars and how they benefited the North Minneapolis Empowerment zone. MMEPC will reach out to city officials for information and possibly a presentation.

This 2-hour Town Hall Meeting will provide a serious list of topics and concerns. Local media is invited and candidates are welcomed to bring literature. (Time is limited but we will acknowledge candidates that participate.)

MMEPC invites Democrats, Republicans, Green Party, Independents and Undecided’s to participate in community Town Hall Meetings, Candidate Forums and Voter Education Rally’s to be held a local businesses and organizations that foster a wide distribution of information to communities of color.

About the Minnesota Minority-Ethnic Political Caucus

The Minnesota Minority-Ethnic Political Caucus (MMEPC) is formed on, May 5, 2010 to engage Minnesota’s communities of color.  MMEPC invites community members, candidates and elected officials to participate in a conversation about current events in Minnesota that have made a drastic change in a once well-off infrastructure of jobs, economic development and education.

The Minnesota Minority-Ethnic Political Caucus will not support or be represented by any one political party, so that it can form a think tank for outreach, voter education and Town Hall Meetings with talking points presented by representatives of industry, education, state and local directors that will provide factual documented information about concerns that all people in Minnesota have, but not expressed or distributed in the communities of color.

The Tea Party Movement of Minnesota, more specifically, the Minnesota Tea Party Patriots inspired the MMEPC. This group will not to be used by any political party as a “disposable tool,” to garner votes for any one candidate – but as a center of information for community members that don’t receive factual information about conditions of their neighborhoods, schools and employment opportunities.

MMEPC invites Democrats, Republicans, Green Party, Independents and Undecided’s to participate in community Town Hall Meetings, Candidate Forums and Voter Education Rally’s to be held a local businesses and organizations that foster a wide distribution of information to communities of color.

The organizers of this group have different political affiliations but will not promote, suggest or deny anyone to join. MMEPC is not a racist organization. We invite community members from all walks of life to get involved, learn, listen and participate.
