The Great White Hope – Mitt Romney and his sidekick Paul Ryan seem to be living in a world outside the realm of reality in his run for the White House. The problem with Mitt Romney is only one thing, the Republican Party of America. He has 78-days to fix the party of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and good ole Abe Lincoln. At some point in history, the Republican Party did like Blacks – but it was for self-serving reasons. What’s happening in 2012 is a total exclusion and obstruction of voter education from both the Democrats and the Republicans. “May the worse of two evils loose.”

United States (IBNN/Political Parties and People/August 21, 2012)…Somewhere in the last 100-years, the Republican Party of America got things twisted.
After the death of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. – who was an American clergyman, activist, and prominent leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement, and championed Conservative politics in America – the Republican’s lost one of its most valued assets in the war against Democratic rhetoric and cheap talk with no actions.
Author and Black Republican Frances Rice wrote, “It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S’s: slavery, secession, segregation and now socialism.”
Rice continues, “It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860s, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950s and 1960s.”
Few Black Americans (and fewer Whites) know that it was Republicans who founded the Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Unknown also is the fact that Republican Sen. Everett Dirksen from Illinois was key to the passage of civil rights legislation in 1957, 1960, 1964 and 1965. Not mentioned in media stories about extension of the 1965 Voting Rights Act is the fact that Dirksen wrote the language for the bill. Dirksen also crafted the language for the Civil Rights Act of 1968, which prohibited discrimination in housing. President Lyndon Johnson could not have achieved passage of civil rights legislation without the support of Republicans.
With all the great accomplishments by the Republicans, supposedly for Blacks – what has happen with the current GOP of 2012?
History tells us the Republicans freed the slaves, or back then “Niggers” for their own selfish needs. Regardless if the slaves were free, it still meant working on a plantation for a White master as a sharecropper who would overcharge you for equipment and leave the freedmen broke and hungry. This was the “evolution of slavery” trading one form of slavery for another. In reality, the Republicans were responsible for the failure of reconstruction and the many hangings, rapes and death of Black men and women throughout history.
If you look at the “evolution of slavery” in 2012, it can be seen in the public schools, health care, health disparities, unemployment, underemployment and a host of other social constructs that put people of color (especially Blacks and Native Americans) who are at the bottom of all and any economic opportunity…still today.
The current Republican Party of America hasn’t figured out that without us (Blacks) they fail, time-after-time. Until the Republican’s start liking Black people, we can expect the same watered-down, uneventful politics that will put Obama in office again. Don’t get me wrong; I support the Black president in spite of the Republican Party of American having nothing to offer me or anyone else.
Today’s Republicans have sent the Black community back to the days of White Only drinking fountains.
