Designer Poverty: Nonprofits that serve black people

Designer Poverty: Nonprofits that serve black people

The ideology of "some" non-profit social service agencies have been replaced with a “bank-like” operation that in most cases only helps itself. It does not matter how much money you make, just make sure someone in the community benefits. (photo: IBNN) By Donald Allen, Editor-in-Chief – OurBlackNews.com There is something to be said [...]

Why the Minneapolis Urban League will not call a press conference

Why the Minneapolis Urban League will not call a press conference

"Taking a look at the MUL from the inside." Some of the smallest nonprofits in north Minneapolis have the ability to reach thousands of Twin Cities residents. The Minneapolis Urban League lost their ability to be heard and reach all black Minnesotans more than 20-years ago. The black community in Minnesota is monumental; we do not read one [...]

IBNN knew the Minneapolis Urban Leagues 13th Grade was a bad idea…but nobody listened to facts

IBNN knew the Minneapolis Urban Leagues 13th Grade was a bad idea…but nobody listened to facts

Again... Yes, I told you so. I've been writing about the Minneapolis Urban League's #fails since I heard about the bill dreamed up by Senators Bobby Joe Champion and Jeff Hayden. This collaboration was bound to fail based on the internal process of the MUL, it's board, partners and political affiliations. Please...read my stories, then read the [...]

What are the responsibilities of nonprofit Board of Directors?

Come clean, resign and recreate. (photo: The Smug Bastard's Blog - Fair Use) In light of the resent Senate Ethics Committee filings on senator Jeff Hayden, it is important for community members to be clear on what a nonprofit board is suppose to do, rather than play the race card and cry racism. Again, members of the black community are being [...]

Some of the most dangerous killing weapons in the Twin Cites sit behind desks in the Black community

Ronald A. Edwards and Don Allen. Today (4.8) North Minneapolis under siege with double-homicide. Now remind me, who does the city, county and state give that money to prevent this kind of community horror? How did Minnesota’s black community let the Four Horsemen bamboozle everyone? Black on Black crime happens without a gun.  By The Ron [...]

Anyone who signs up THAT DAY AT NorthPoint and becomes a member of the Minneapolis NAACP [...]

The Star Tribune attacked me with a one-sided polemic masquerading as journalism

Don Allen asking the Minneapolis Public Schools board of directors to "fix" one school or resign. (photo: IBNN NEWS) In 2011, I was very disappointed by the article published about my work with the public schools in the Star Tribune last week (“Critic of Schools Now Paid to Promote Them”). While it has become clear that the article contains [...]

Is Barway Collins dead?

Is Barway Collins dead?

4th grader Barway Collins still missing. Fox 9 has turned all heads to his father...none to the missing boy. (photo: Fair Use - family) The Ron and Don Show alleges Fox 9 News in collaboration with an agent provocateur have been raising so much havoc the search for Barway Collins has turned into a crucifixion of the boys father, and not a [...]

Where is the equity plan for the renovation of the city owned facility the Target Center?

Where is the equity plan for the renovation of the city owned facility the Target Center?

Minneapolis mayor Betsy Hodges. Show residents of Minneapolis the equity plan for the remodeling of the Target Center. (photo: Star Tribune, Google search - Fair Use) When Minneapolis mayor Betsy Hodges took office, her team developed a high-pitched tone of rhetoric behind the word “equity.” Equity as I understand it means: the relations [...]
