The goal of IBNN is to provide a different view of the local, national and global news and events that happen in the Black communities around the world. Audit finds Minnesota Department of Transportation did not increase DBE participation – but we knew that already

The "Collaborative, DBE's,  and Workforce" all terms used by MnDOT as if they were really going to make sure that black contractors would get more than $715 (dollars) out of $68 million. The new report from audit director Daniel E. Kahnke, CGFM shows all MnDOT did was talk a real good game. by Donald Allen – Editor-in-Chief, The Independent [...]

Two Years After Tornado “Nancy” 2011: Not better then before, but worse

Two Years After Tornado “Nancy” 2011: Not better then before, but worse

In the video below (by IBNN), many black women who approached the tornado recovery organization were sent packing. In 2013, we can still see the effects of the 2011 tornado. Houses still remain with the signature blue tarps; an increase in the homeless population and no jobs created for residents in north Minneapolis – in spite of the [...]

NAACP could mean failure for Black Americans? Discussion: Saturday ON POINT!

"Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's black progress." (Photo: The Wrong Stuff, edited by IBNN.) Who speaks for black Americans? What does a politically motivated, organizational process that has done little to anything for people of color control?  Why do blacks think it’s okay to continue to support an organization that sees them has [...]

Open letter to WCCO-TV (CBS affiliate) and general manager Brien Kennedy: Inside the box – or out of touch with reality?

After calling WCCO-TV and trying to schedule an appointment with WCCO-TV Vice President & General Manager Brien Kennedy to gain insight on his operation, neither he nor his staff has made any attempts to return phone calls.  We have come to the conclusion; WCCO-TV channel 4 does not have the same essence of the CBS affiliate when Dave Moore, [...]

University of Minnesota Duluth Students: F***king N****rs; Rosa Parks is a B***h and N****r Lips – Racism is alive and doing well in Academia

This is what happens when poor trash is not taught the sensitivities of using racial slurs to describe what they think Black people are, especially Black men. These two young women have crossed the line in taste and ethics. It looks like White privilege has taken a whole new shape up  "norf." Related Story: LETTER FROM DULUTH; It Did [...]

"Pre-heat  oven to 450, cook for 30 minutes and eat. Made for the haters in your community. LOL!" (Photo: Fark) It’s game on for the public school systems! IBNN has sent a request for information to the Minnesota Department of Education to clarify the origins of the attack on a Black educational institution and it’s leadership. With [...]

IBNN NEWS Exclusive: Deceptive yellow journalism at the heart of attack on Harvest Prep – board chairperson speaks out

IBNN has received many calls about the resent stories in the Star Tribune about Harvest Prep and its headmaster Eric Mahmoud. At this time, IBNN would like to make it very clear we are in support of Black education and student success in Minnesota. After careful review of several reports IBNN intercepted, it seems clear the “news tips” to the [...]

How long will Minneapolis’ Civil Rights Department be able to run sans intelligence?

How long will Minneapolis’ Civil Rights Department be able to run sans intelligence?

Minneapolis Civil Rights director Velma Korbel and assistant director Michael “Kip” Browne could not come up with national models for their changes in the CRA. Nor could the duo cite peer review journals that helped them to establish what they call changes in the way Minneapolis investigates police challenges.  Korbel and Browne have again [...]

Star Tribune story: Gang feud that killed Nizzel grew for months. Someone knew this and still did nothing?

Star Tribune story: Gang feud that killed Nizzel grew for months. Someone knew this and still did nothing?

"Really, in North Minneapolis?" I’m going to take this opportunity to say something is wrong in a system that observes destructive behavior and sits back and does nothing. This “feud” as fantasized by the Star Tribune is just another example of “Someone’s sleeping at the wheel for Black youth.” Here’s one for you, rather than a [...]

Former Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights Contract Compliance manager Corky Taylor dies

Former Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights Contract Compliance manager Corky Taylor dies

"Rest in Peace." The Associate Press took the story about a local college sports legend and turned it into a criminalization of a Black man for a brawl on a basketball court that happened in 1972. I knew Corky Taylor and out of respect and love, I share with you what we talked about on many occasions as he worked to make sure small and [...]
