Slavegate 2011: Indentured Servitude in north Minneapolis – Part 1

“The City of Minneapolis’ Civil Rights director sat silent as she listened to what could probably turn out to be one of the worse violation of state and federal laws in Minnesota’s history as it pertains to prevailing wages and non-payment of salvage workers from the Network for Better Futures. Rather that sitting silent, Ms. Velma Korbel [...]

Greens, Cornbread and Fried Chicken: Who’s cooking the numbers on participation on the new District Headquarters? (Part 1 IBNN NEWS Exclusive Report)

The community of north Minneapolis missed out on economic stimulus for 728 hours of work on the new district headquarters.  They missed out because prevailing wages were not paid, despite federal laws and regulations. Diversity and Equity personnel from the school district have not (and refused) to answer questions on licensing, bonding and [...]

MPS New District Headquarters “Oversight” Committee invites Communities of Color to give input about participation of minorities and women

“Communities of color in Minneapolis are not satisfied with the recent choices made of an oversight committee of individuals (outside of MPS board members) who have sat idle with no efforts of creating opportunities in each of their assigned positions outside of this committee. Diversion and exclusion seem to be the flavor of the [...]

Star Tribune and writer Corey Mitchell: Flawed by Design

"Minneapolis Public  Schools paid $15k and Don Allen figured out a way to find his ads onto the Minneapolis Star and Tribune with major coverage on a feature story. Anyone have a guess as to how much a full color ad like that would actually cost? Mr. Allen appears to have utilized an old marketing technique knows as flawed by design marketing to [...]

Urban Prep Academy Gets 100% Black Male College Attendance…Again – “Can someone explain Noble Charter Schools?”

Editors note: “Noble Charter Schools? Give me a break! If there’s a model, which is successful in sending Black males to college, why haven’t we looked at it?  This oversight by the powers that be could prove to be fatal for plans to adopt a model to match wits with the $700 million dollar institution called the Minneapolis Public [...]

"How much longer does the community have to put up with no E and O?" “I’m sorry, the group that I met with last night made me feel uncomfortable. The sideshow must stop. These people do not represent the Black community nor do they represent the education of the Black child in Minneapolis. I attest an attempt for the money grab is on, [...]
